Barbara Madalene (Madi) Geddes, CEO/Founder
In 2016, Expedition Travel & Tours—formerly known as Madi G's Custom Tours—was established with a mission to intertwine a deep love for Cape Breton Island with meaningful employment opportunities. Cape Breton Island, celebrated for its stunning landscapes and rich culture, attracts visitors from around the globe. However, for many residents, it also presents economic challenges. The island’s economy has thrived on entrepreneurship since the early 1700s, shaped by the hard work and pride of its people. Barbara, the CEO and owner of Expedition Travel & Tours, is a true embodiment of this spirit, having been raised in a family of entrepreneurs where the values of hard work and business ownership were instilled in her from an early age.
Barbara's journey in the tourism industry began in 1990 when she launched Mrs. G’s Cape Breton Emporium, the first retail store and small tour operator at the Port of Sydney. This venture offered bike rentals and unique day tours that allowed visitors to immerse themselves in authentic local experiences, such as berry picking and jam-making in a traditional Cape Breton kitchen. Mrs. G’s served not only as a retail and service outlet but also as a pivotal platform that inspired the creation of Expedition Travel & Tours.
Equipped with a degree in Tourism Management and a wealth of diverse experiences, Barbara was driven by her passion to share the beauty and culture of Cape Breton with a wider audience. As a result, she confidently launched Expedition Travel & Tours, emphasizing the slogan "Make Memories with Friends," which reflects her commitment to fostering personalized and memorable travel experiences.
